In our ongoing mission to educate 10 million people about the barriers that domestic violence survivors, particularly those with pets, we’ve taken an unconventional yet delightful approach: cruise ducks. If you’ve been following our journey, you might recall my previous blog post about how Delta lost my luggage on a recent family reunion cruise. Unfortunately, this meant that I couldn’t hide my 60 tagged ducks on the ship. However, the story doesn’t end there.
One of our dedicated board members, Joseph Heggins, stepped up to the plate. He and his family recently went on Carnival’s Jubilee, a massive ship that provides the perfect canvas for our mission. Joseph and his family managed to hide over 40 ducks across the ship, each tagged with vital information about the barriers domestic violence survivors face when trying to leave abusive situations with their pets.
These ducks are more than just a fun activity; they are conversation starters. Each time someone finds a duck, they also find information that can change perspectives and encourage support for our cause. It’s a small but significant step towards our goal of reaching 10 million people.
Next up, our ducks are heading to Singapore in October with a friend who is embarking on a 30-day cruise. We’re excited to see how far and wide our message will spread and how many more people we can educate through this innovative approach.
The idea behind the cruise ducks is simple yet powerful. It leverages the popularity of this playful trend to spread an important message in a memorable way. Cruise-goers love finding these hidden treasures, and the tags provide them with information they might not have sought out otherwise. This aligns perfectly with our goals at Praline’s Backyard Foundation, where we strive to raise awareness about the unique challenges domestic violence survivors with pets face.
By hiding these ducks, we’re not just playing a game; we’re engaging with people on a deeper level. We’re making them think, sparking conversations, and hopefully, inspiring them to take action. Whether it’s donating, fostering pets, or simply spreading the word, every little bit helps us get closer to our mission.
As we continue our journey, we invite you to join us. Whether you’re going on a cruise, attending an event, or simply want to learn more, there are many ways you can help. Follow our blog for updates on our progress, stories from survivors, and more creative ways we’re spreading awareness.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Together, we can make a significant impact and ensure no pet or survivor is left behind.
