At Praline’s Backyard Foundation, we often witness the power of community support and how it can transform lives. Today, we’d like to share a heartwarming story about a survivor and her two beloved cats, Abby and Odin.
A few months ago, we reached out through emails and social media posts, asking for fosters for Abby and Odin. The response was overwhelming, and we were fortunate to have a law student from New York volunteer to foster. Initially, he was nervous about fostering, but with our encouragement and support, he embraced the responsibility.
The journey began when the survivor dropped off Abby and Odin at a pet boarding facility. The next day, a volunteer picked them up and transported them to their new foster home. This act of kindness provided immense relief and gratitude to the survivor, who was then able to focus on her recovery and healing process.
Over the next four months, the survivor received regular updates about her cats. These updates were a source of encouragement and comfort, helping her through the tough times. Earlier this month, she contacted us with the wonderful news that she had found safe and stable housing and was ready to be reunited with Abby and Odin.
Excited to assist her, we put out another call for help with transportation. Despite some initial miscommunication between the volunteer transporter and the foster, we ensured the cats’ safe return by enlisting the services of a pet transport company. This solution not only worked out well but also reinforced our commitment to the survivor that we were determined to reunite her with her pets.
During this process, there were moments of nervousness, especially with the possibility of the foster becoming attached to Abby and Odin. However, trusting the process and the community’s support, everything worked out beautifully. Abby and Odin are now happily reunited with their person, all thanks to the collective efforts of our dedicated supporters.
