3. Up to 84% of pet-owning survivors reported that their abusers had threatened, injured, or killed their pets as a means of control.

4. Many survivors delay leaving an abusive situation due to concerns for their pets’ safety, leading to a dangerous cycle of prolonged abuse.

5. The bond between humans and their pets is strong, with up to 89% of pet owners considering their pets as part of the family. This emotional connection makes it even more crucial to address their safety.

Our mission at Praline’s Backyard Foundation is to ensure the safety and well-being of pets belonging to domestic violence survivors during their transition to safe housing. We are committed to removing the obstacles that often prevent survivors from leaving harmful situations – including concerns about their pets’ care. Praline’s Backyard Foundation is proud to offer a comprehensive solution through pet boarding facility and pet fosters across the United States. Our goal is to create a supportive pet boarding and pet foster network that enables survivors to confidently pursue a better life for themselves and their beloved animal companions housing via our community partners.

We are looking to partner with boarding facilities and foster homes across the country. To volunteer, please fill out the appropriate form. 

If we have a pet in need in your area, we will contact you should you be a good fit for the family and their needs. Then, we will facilitate the transfer of the animal into your care.
